Quick update on the Lego travel case

Minggu, 27 Maret 2016

I was gone most of last week on vacation so I didnt get to work on the case much but I got a lot done the last couple of days.  I stopped by Rockler and picked up 2 hinges, 2 clasps, and a handle for it.  I go them all in bronze because that was the only color that I could find all the pieces in.  I would have preferred the aged nickel but oh well.  The outside of the case has 3 coats of Danish oil and now 2 coats of Polyurethane.  The inside tray has 2 coats of Danish oil that needs 1 more day of drying time.  It will then get 2 coats of poly as well.  I trimmed the Lego plates down to fit the inside of the case and have some self adhesive sheets of felt for the insides of the case and the bottom of the tray.  Everything should be ready for my sons party on Saturday.  If all goes according to plan I should have a video out on Monday for the project.

Build a Case for your Books with your Friends

Kamis, 24 Maret 2016

Its Wood Whisperer Guild Build time again. Because Marc is currently dealing with a limited shop as his new one is built, the current build is a one or two sheet plywood bookcase. Its a useful project that makes great use of one of my favorite materials: man made sheet goods. Unlike my projects that often leave the sheet goods exposed, Marc will show you how to hide it and make a damn fine bookcase.
The One & Two Sheet Bookcase
Previously Ive talked about The Wood Whisperer Guild and why I feel its a must for any online woodworker. Now, you can watch me go on about the Guild, and why its such a great experience to build a project with fellow guild members. As you watch, Im the one who looks like a zombie.

I started a new project a Lego travel case!

Minggu, 13 Maret 2016

My older sons birthday is next month and my wife suggested that I make him a travel case for his Legos.  I bought him 5 lbs of Legos last year for his birthday and 2 lbs the year before that.  He also has around 10 smaller kits that have all been assimilated into his collection.  I had originally planned to use scraps of cedar fence post left over from the planter build but upon closer inspection that are all warped or twisted in some choice so I went to Lowes and picked up some 1/2" poplar boards.  I started the glue up last night and plan on working on it some more tomorrow.  I have been vlogging about it on my YouTube channel and you can check it out here:  http://www.youtube.com/funwithwoodworking

Lego travel case update

Kamis, 03 Maret 2016

I havent had a chance to work on the case in the last couple of days but I was able to get to Sketchup last night and make a drawing of it.  There was a definite learning curve but Im finding that it really helps with the design process.  I was able to figure out some of the dimensions much easier and even found a design element to add.  Im hoping to get some work done on it this weekend and plan on having a new vlog update tomorrow night.  In the meantime I posted the sketchup file in the download section.  Feel free to download it and let me know what you think!

A House In The Trees Part XI

Kamis, 04 Februari 2016

With the roof sheathing complete and papered in, its time to turn my attention to the walls. Before I can sheath them, I have to waterproof the edge of the plywood flooring to prevent water absorption that would lead to dreaded delamination.
